Where should you stay in Dubai for the first time?
Downtown Dubai is the right default for a first trip. The Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the fountain are all on foot, the Metro's Red Line runs along the district's edge, and Old Dubai's souks are a short Metro or taxi ride away. The one thing Downtown can't give you is a beach.
Stay in Dubai Marina or JBR instead if beach time matters as much as sightseeing. The free public beach at JBR is walkable from most Marina hotels, and the Red Line links the Marina area with Downtown. Choose Jumeirah Beach only if the trip is resort-first: it has the beaches but no metro nearby.
Rove Downtown
Rove Downtown is the value way into the district: about a 10-minute walk from Dubai Mall, with 26 m² rooms, an outdoor pool and a 24-hour gym. It is rated Superb across thousands of Booking.com reviews, and it cost ~AED 680 a night in July and ~AED 815 in November in our check.

Where do most Brits stay in Dubai?
No one publishes a figure for where British visitors stay in Dubai, so treat any "most Brits stay in…" claim as a guess. What you can check is where UK holidays are sold. loveholidays, a UK online travel agent, runs dedicated Dubai holiday pages for Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah Beach (checked 24 September 2026) – the three beach areas, which is where a sun-and-beach package naturally lands.
Not every UK guide agrees. lastminute.com's guide to Dubai's best areas sends budget travellers to Deira and beach-resort seekers to Umm Suqeim and the Palm. If you want the classic UK beach-holiday base, pick the Marina and JBR for a walkable beach and restaurants, or the Palm for an all-in resort.
JW Marriott Hotel Marina
JW Marriott Hotel Marina on Al Marsa Street is our all-round Marina pick, linked to Marina Mall and rated Superb by Booking.com guests. It was The Address Dubai Marina until its rebrand on 1 January 2024, so older reviews may use that name.

Dubai Marina and JBR are not two separate areas: JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) is the beachfront edge of Dubai Marina, a few minutes' walk from the Marina's canal-side towers. Don't confuse JBR with Jumeirah Beach, the separate coast around Umm Suqeim and the Burj Al Arab, roughly between the Marina and Downtown.
Where to stay in Dubai with kids
Palm Jumeirah and the Jumeirah Beach coast have Dubai's family resort stock: waterparks, kids' clubs and beaches in front of the room. Jumeirah Beach Hotel includes the Wild Wadi waterpark in its rate, which makes it the strongest alternative to the Palm.
Be honest with yourself about a skyline tower. Downtown works for a sightseeing trip with older children, but for young kids who want a pool and sand every day, a tower on Sheikh Zayed Road is the wrong kind of hotel.
Atlantis, The Palm
Atlantis, The Palm includes unlimited Aquaventure waterpark and Lost World Aquarium access in the room rate, with the beach out front at the tip of the Palm. It cost ~AED 1,770 a night in July and ~AED 2,620 in November in our check – a lot, but the waterpark is already paid for.

Where to stay in Dubai as a couple
Stay in Downtown for a city-and-dinner trip, or on the Palm or the Jumeirah coast for a beach escape. For a splurge – private-island and small beach resorts – the best luxury hotels in Dubai compares the top end with real prices.
Unmarried couples can share a hotel room in Dubai. The National reported in November 2020 that the UAE's legal reform would, for the first time, allow unmarried couples to live together legally. According to current travel-law guides (September 2026), Dubai hotels no longer ask tourists for proof of marriage.
Public displays of affection remain an offence for married and unmarried couples alike, and individual hotels can set their own policies – check before you book. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
Palace Downtown
Palace Downtown is the low-rise, Arabian-style hotel on the shore of Burj Lake, with a palm-fringed pool, a spa and four restaurants, yet Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa are within walking distance. Its public rate was ~AED 1,610 a night in July and ~AED 2,835 in November in our check; Booking.com showed lower members-only prices on top.
Where to stay in Dubai on a budget
Business Bay and Old Dubai are where the money goes furthest. Business Bay, along the Dubai Canal with its own Red Line station, has the most mid-range towers close to Downtown – see the best hotels in Business Bay, DIFC and Sheikh Zayed Road. Old Dubai – Deira and Bur Dubai around Dubai Creek – has the city's cheapest stock.
Old Dubai also has the most characterful small hotels. Al Seef Heritage Hotel on Dubai Creek cost around AED 320 a night in July in our September 2026 sample, and the best boutique hotels in Dubai lists it with the other heritage stays.
Keep expectations realistic: the cheapest beach-area room in our check was still ~AED 480 a night, so the real savings come from staying inland or by the Creek.
Rove JBR
Rove JBR on The Walk is the cheapest way to sleep by the beach: ~AED 480 a night in July and ~AED 705 in November in our check, the lowest rates of any hotel in the grid. It is rated Superb by Booking.com guests, and the free public beach at JBR is a short walk away.
Where to stay for nightlife
Stay in Dubai Marina and JBR, or on the Palm. Dubai's bars and clubs sit mostly inside licensed hotels, and alcohol is served only in licensed venues, so the nightlife follows the hotel clusters. The Marina and JBR give you the most choice on foot; the Palm's resort venues mean a taxi between them.
FIVE Palm Jumeirah Dubai
FIVE Palm Jumeirah is the pick for a lively pool scene: a landmark on the trunk with 470 rooms, a private beach and five pools. Guest reviews describe a busy, music-led pool – great for some couples and groups, wrong for a quiet break. It cost ~AED 645 a night in July and ~AED 1,590 in November in our check.

Where to stay near the beach
Dubai has three beach areas, and they suit different trips:
- Dubai Marina and JBR: a free public beach backed by The Walk's cafés and the tram – the most choice, and the busiest sand.
- Palm Jumeirah: private hotel beaches and full resort facilities – the least walkable of the three.
- Jumeirah Beach / Umm Suqeim: resort beaches plus free public ones such as Kite Beach, with the Burj Al Arab on the skyline.
The Burj Al Arab itself has been closed for an 18-month restoration since 15 April 2026, with reopening expected around late 2027, so it's a view, not a stay, for now.
Jumeirah Beach Hotel
Jumeirah Beach Hotel on Jumeirah Beach Road in Umm Suqeim puts every room facing the Gulf and the Burj Al Arab, with Wild Wadi included in the rate. It is also the clearest example of Dubai's seasonal pricing: ~AED 1,125 a night in July, ~AED 3,450 in November in our check. Where to stay for a short trip of 2–3 nights
Pick one base and don't move: Downtown for a sightseeing trip, the Marina or JBR if you want the beach. On two or three nights, a hotel change costs you half a day, and the Red Line links the two areas anyway. Rove Downtown is the value pick; Palace Downtown if it's a special occasion.
