A trip to Dubai costs ~US$95–175 per person per day on a budget, ~US$250–440 mid-range and ~US$600 and up for luxury, on the ground and before flights, in our line-item model for two people sharing a room. A 7-night mid-range trip for two lands ~US$3,450–6,200 (~AED 12,740–22,680) plus airfare. The hotel drives most of that swing, and hotel rates move with the season, so every input below carries its source and date.

How much does a trip to Dubai cost per person per day?

On a mid-range budget, plan on ~AED 910–1,620 (≈ US$250–440) per person per day for two adults sharing one room, eating out three times a day and paying for one attraction a day. That's our model, built from the dated hotel, menu, fare and ticket prices in the sections below – an estimate, not a quote.

TierHotel (your half of the room)FoodTransportOne attractionPer person per day
Budget~AED 160–350 (≈ US$45–95)~AED 100–150 (≈ US$25–40)~AED 20–40 (≈ US$5–10)~AED 60–100 (≈ US$15–25)~AED 340–640 ≈ US$95–175
Mid-range~AED 450–900 (≈ US$125–245)~AED 250–350 (≈ US$70–95)~AED 60–120 (≈ US$15–35)~AED 150–250 (≈ US$40–70)~AED 910–1,620 ≈ US$250–440
Luxury~AED 1,100–2,750 (≈ US$300–750)~AED 600–1,000 (≈ US$165–270)~AED 200–400 (≈ US$55–110)~AED 300–500 (≈ US$80–135)~AED 2,200 and up ≈ US$600 and up

The model leaves out flights, shopping, tips, a SIM card, insurance and most alcohol. These totals include a paid attraction every day, which is why they run higher than budgets that leave sightseeing out.

Budget means a value hotel, the Metro, shawarma counters and casual cafés, and a cheaper ticket such as the Dubai Frame. Mid-range means an upscale hotel, sit-down meals, taxis and a headline ticket such as Burj Khalifa. Luxury means a Palm resort or an ultra-luxury hotel, hotel restaurants, taxis everywhere and premium tickets.

How much does a 5-day or 7-day trip to Dubai cost?

A 7-night mid-range Dubai trip for two costs ~AED 12,740–22,680 (≈ US$3,450–6,200) before flights, and 5 nights ~AED 9,100–16,200 (≈ US$2,500–4,400), in our model: the per-day figures × 2 people × the number of nights, rounded to the nearest ~US$50.

Tier5 nights, 2 people7 nights, 2 people
Budget~AED 3,400–6,400 (≈ US$950–1,750)~AED 4,760–8,960 (≈ US$1,300–2,450)
Mid-range~AED 9,100–16,200 (≈ US$2,500–4,400)~AED 12,740–22,680 (≈ US$3,450–6,200)
Luxury~AED 22,000–46,500 (≈ US$6,000–12,650)~AED 30,800–65,100 (≈ US$8,400–17,750)

Travelling solo, you pay the whole room, so add the other half of the hotel line back: a mid-range solo day comes to ~AED 1,360–2,520 (≈ US$370–685) on the same arithmetic.

For a family of four, multiply food, transport and tickets by four, then price a family room or two rooms separately. Our guide to the best family hotels in Dubai compares the options that sleep four.

Is 4 or 7 days enough? Four days covers the headline sights – our 3-day Dubai itinerary fits the big ones into three – and seven leaves room for a beach day, a desert safari and a day in Abu Dhabi.

How much does a trip to Dubai cost from the USA?

Emirates flies nonstop to Dubai from about a dozen US cities, including New York JFK, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC, according to its route pages. The nonstop takes roughly 13 hours from JFK and 16 hours from Los Angeles on Emirates' schedules.

Etihad also flies from several US cities, but those flights land in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai, and other airlines reach Dubai with a connection – airline networks change, so check your route before you plan around it.

Round-trip economy fares from the US typically run ~US$600–1,300, according to fare-tracking data from KAYAK, with the cheaper months near the bottom of that range. December is the dearest month to fly and June is also pricey, while February and the autumn months tend to be cheaper on KAYAK's Emirates data.

Entry needs no advance visa for Americans: US citizens get a visitor visa on arrival for up to 90 days within 180 days and need a passport valid for at least six months (UAE Embassy in Washington). We found no published rule requiring proof of funds, a hotel booking or an onward ticket – our Dubai rules for tourists covers US and UK entry rules and explains where the "AED 3,000 rule" story comes from.

Heads up
The US State Department rates the UAE Level 3, "Reconsider Travel", as of late September 2026. Allianz notes that US travel insurance plans generally don't cover losses linked to government advisories, war or fear of travel, so a Level 3 advisory can limit your cover – read your policy before you buy flights, and see our guide to whether Dubai is safe to visit.

Flights are the one line this page can't fix – check Google Flights or the airline for your dates.

How much do hotels cost in Dubai – and what do the taxes add?

Expect ~AED 320–950 a night (≈ US$90–260) for a value hotel room and ~AED 900–2,000 (≈ US$245–545) for a mainstream upscale hotel, going by our own Booking.com samples from autumn 2026: the lowest public rate shown for two adults and one night, not a market average.

A resort on the Palm sampled at ~AED 1,600–3,000 (≈ US$435–815) a night, and the ultra-luxury end starts ~AED 4,000 (≈ US$1,090). Our best time to visit Dubai snapshot found the upscale hotels cheapest in summer and New Year's Eve week at roughly four times a normal night, while the value hotel barely moved.

What does the Tourism Dirham add?

Dubai charges a Tourism Dirham of AED 7–20 per occupied room per night, set by hotel class, under the Dubai government's 2014 resolution (as listed in the resolution). The guest pays it, it stops after 30 consecutive nights, and hotels must show it in their price lists.

Hotel classTourism Dirham, per room per night
5-star~AED 20 (≈ US$5.45)
4-star~AED 15 (≈ US$4.10)
3-star and 2-star~AED 10 (≈ US$2.70)
1-star and budget~AED 7 (≈ US$1.90)
Hotel apartments~AED 10–20 (≈ US$2.70–5.45)

On top of the room rate, Dubai hotel bills typically add 5% VAT, a 7% municipality fee and a 10% service charge – the three lines printed on Dubai hotel restaurant menus and in FIVE Palm Jumeirah's guest FAQ (June 2024).

Before you pay on Booking.com or a hotel's own site, read the tax and charges breakdown and any pay-at-the-property lines, so you know which of these are already in the total. Each hotel also sets its own security deposit, taken as a card pre-authorisation or cash at check-in.

How much do food and drink cost in Dubai?

Eating out in Dubai is cheap at street level and expensive once alcohol is involved – a falafel or shawarma sandwich costs less than many café coffees, and a single hotel-bar beer costs about as much as a casual main course. Prices below come from operator menus; delivery-app prices can differ from what you pay at the counter.

Hotel restaurants typically add a 10% service charge, and it isn't necessarily paid to your server, according to Dubai's tourism department, quoted by Gulf News in 2018. Visit Dubai says there are no set tipping rules (16 March 2026); Gulf News put a customary restaurant tip at 10–15% in January 2023, never compulsory.

Alcohol is served only in licensed venues, mostly hotels, and only to guests aged 21 or over.

How much does getting around Dubai cost?

Dubai Metro single fares start at ~AED 3 (≈ US$0.80) for one zone on a Silver Nol card, and a Red Ticket day pass is ~AED 20 (≈ US$5.45), according to Dubai Metro Rails' fare calculator and Dubai Online in 2026. The Silver card itself costs ~AED 25, including ~AED 19 of credit.

A Dubai taxi starts at ~AED 5 by day and ~AED 5.50 at night, then charges ~AED 2.14–2.26 per km, with an ~AED 12 minimum fare, an ~AED 25 flag-fall for rides starting at Dubai International (DXB) and ~AED 0.50 a minute waiting, according to Gulf News quoting the RTA on 5 November 2025.

On our arithmetic, a 10 km daytime taxi ride comes to ~AED 26–28 (≈ US$7–8) before tolls and any airport fee. Uber and Careem price by demand, so we don't quote them – the app shows a fare before you confirm.

The Palm Monorail costs ~AED 5–20 for a single and ~AED 30 for a Gateway–Atlantis return (operator fares). For a day in Abu Dhabi, Etihad Rail's train takes about an hour from Dubai, with fares from ~AED 40 in Comfort and ~AED 110 in Premium – see our guide to Dubai to Abu Dhabi by train.

How much do Dubai's main attractions cost?

Dubai's best-known attractions cost ~AED 50–250 (≈ US$14–68) per adult, from the Dubai Frame up to Aquaventure World. That's why our model budgets ~AED 60–100 a day for a budget traveller, enough for a Frame or Miracle Garden ticket, and ~AED 150–250 mid-range, enough for Burj Khalifa or Aquaventure.

Burj Khalifa's Level 148 "At the Top SKY" ticket starts at ~AED 399 (≈ US$109) on the official site – the kind of premium ticket the luxury tier's ~AED 300–500 a day assumes.

Is Dubai expensive for Americans?

Dubai is cheaper than New York for eating out, taxis and a night at the movies, while alcohol is not cheap and its hotels cost what the season says. Numbeo's crowd-sourced prices, updated on 23–24 October 2025 from 372 New York and 521 Dubai contributors, compare like this:

Item (Numbeo, crowd-sourced)New YorkDubai
Inexpensive restaurant meal~US$25.50~US$11 (~AED 40)
Mid-range dinner for two, three courses~US$147.50~US$82 (~AED 300)
Cinema ticket~US$20~US$15
Taxi, per mile~US$3.50~US$1.10

Plan on dirhams or a card. Some tourist-facing hotels, souks and tour operators take US dollars at their own exchange rate, but it isn't guaranteed. The dirham is pegged at AED 3.6725 to the US dollar, so you can check any rate you're offered; ask your bank about its foreign-transaction fee before you fly.

Outside restaurants, Gulf News (January 2023) suggests ~AED 5–10 or rounding up for taxis and ~AED 5 or more for a bellboy. For data, du's 7-day tourist plan costs ~AED 199 (≈ US$54), and e&'s visitor plans last 28 days, from ~AED 49 to ~AED 319.

The cheapest Dubai trip moves the hotel line first: upscale hotels are cheapest in summer, Emirates fares from the US tend to be cheapest in February, and December – above all New Year's week – is the dearest for both. After that, the Metro instead of taxis and street food at lunch are the easiest daily savings.

Dubai's price is mostly the hotel: pick your tier, read the tax lines before you pay, and day-to-day costs come in under New York's.
